Ensworth High School
Ensworth High School is one of Middle Tennessee’s independent schools, and is located on the 120-acre historic Devon Farm Site in Nashville. Hawkins Partners was selected to develop a campus master plan for the school, working with Graham Gund Architects of Cambridge, Massachusetts, and Hastings Architecture Associates of Nashville, TN.
The plan included the site location for the campus buildings, preservation of the historic homesite, structures and stonewalls, parking, terrace areas around the buildings in the quadrangle, and an extensive long-range landscape and irrigation plan. The campus opened in the 2004- 2005 academic year and accommodates 440-460 students.
Hawkins Partners, Inc. (HPI) prepared a comprehensive Stormwater Management Plan and narrative for the site, aimed at protecting and enhancing water quality while providing students and the community with educational and recreational opportunities. The plan included re-establishment of native meadow grasses, reforestation to supplement existing streambank vegetation and designation of managed fields for recreational use, with an emphasis on native plants and long-term site sustainability.
