Johnston Medical Center - Clayton campus was developed through a comprehensive master plan process over six years. The 140,000 s.f. campus was developed in two phases and includes medical office buildings and a 50-bed hospital with a total value of approximately $70 million.

HPI participated in the site master plan, framing site circulation patterns and incorporating overall site sustainability concepts throughout. The results are a site that incorporates extensive bioswale systems and structured rooftop runnels for management of onsite stormwater using primarily native plant material. This sustainable design approach achieved cost savings over a conventional system and allowed for a faster permitting approval process. The second phase of work continued the onsite stormwater management approach and added courtyard dining and amenity spaces within the hospital.
