Knoxville Pedestrian Bridge Design Competiton
Hawkins Partners, Inc. was part of the design team selected as one of three finalists to participate in the competition for a pedestrian bridge connecting the Thompson Boling Arena and the future east bank improvements on the Tennessee River in Knoxville. The design was inspired by the river morphology and wildlife associated with the river (i.e. snakes, mussels, etc.). The design seeks to redefine the bridge as more than a pedestrian and bicycle connection between the two banks and to develop it as a public space with gathering opportunities. The bridge incorporated many sustainability measures from solar panels and LED lighting to water harvesting
