Public Square

This award winning rooftop plaza and park was developed for Metro as part of a multi-million dollar renovation to the Metro Courthouse. HPI worked to interpret the history of the site in the site design: most notably a civic lawn, plaza for vendors, a WWII commemorative grove and innovative water features.

The park provides an urban respite for both passive and active recreation that was previously missing from the downtown area. The space is now sought after for civic events, large gatherings, and Frisbee players.

A highlight among the many sustainable elements is a 57,000 gallon rain-harvesting tank located within the parking garage. The harvested water is used to irrigate the native plantings in the park.
